Another highly successful year for raising funds for Cancer Research UK. The annual Whist Drive was held on Friday 1st February, with a recent record of 42 tables playing. £5,678 was raised from the Whist Drive, with a further £513.79 raised from the sale of Christmas cards, sale of diaries and collecting cans. The committee are most grateful for the continued support of local businesses in donating prizes for the raffle.
Sara Prince was this year’s president who guided us through the committee meetings, sold raffle tickets, contacted local businesses and welcomed everyone on the evening. Then there was then the mammoth task of folding hundreds of raffle tickets for the draw. She was ably assisted in this task by husband Glen.
Once again Kirsty organised 3 Fridays of Whist lessons for the P7 class at the Primary School, in the weeks prior to the Whist. They were very quick learners and many of them came with parents to play on the night. It’s wonderful to see so many young carrying on the tradition of this long-established event.
The winning players were, 1st lady Roseanne Ditch and 1st Gent Carol Wells. Young winners were Kelsie Hewines and Grant O’Donnell.
A very big thank you to all who were involved in the event for making it such a success.
