Last year, I decided to put my images to good use and create a calendar to help raise funds for both my charity I volunteer for (Contact the Elderly) and Strathcarron Hospice.

Using these funds, I was able to treat our Contact the Elderly guests (and volunteer drivers) to an afternoon of “Tea on the Train”.  As it was a Steam Train (Bo’ness & Kinneil) it was only fitting to encourage the group to dress vintage!  However, I don’t need much encouragement to dress for a theme 😉

The platform staff were very helpful in getting us all aboard, where we were served an abundance of sandwiches and baking.  We enjoyed our tea as the train steamed to the end of the line where we could take in some gorgeous views along the way.

A good time was had by all     and                would            certainly recommend if you are looking for an Afternoon Tea with a difference.

Naomi and Fiona having a rest from planting the flower tubs in early June along with a friendly, inquisitive dog. The tubs are needing a lot of watering with this wonderful warm weather, and the sunshine is bringing them on a treat. The Dekkers have kindly offered to ease the load in watering, which is most welcome.

A great big thank you to The Beavers who raised money to add to our reserves, and, as always, thank you to the villagers who pop their change into the box in McNicolls. We have a healthy balance, but all donations are most welcome.

The Sports Achievement Cup, donated by Tom Connelly, is voted for by all the pupils in the School. This year’s winner was Murray Robb, who had demonstrated a high level of skill in Kayaking and has recently been promoted into Division 1, which is a great achievement for his age. Murray was part of a duo alongside Ross Claydon who earned Kippen a remarkable 2^nd place in the Scottish Schools Slalom Kayak/Canoe Championships in June.  Murray has also been a member of the School’s football team and a great ambassador for sport in general. A Highly Commended certificate was awarded to Caitlin Bradwell in recognition of her achievement in Cross Country, where she has competed at Stirling, regional and national levels, as well as being an integral part of netball and lacrosse teams in School.

Throughout Term 3 Primary 1/2 have been learning about transport and journeys. We have learned how transport has changed throughout time and how people travelled long ago. We have also had a focus on imaginative writing and wrote some wonderful stories about an amazing journey on a rocket bed, inspired by a story we have read called ‘Back to Earth with a Bump’. 

The children recently enjoyed a trip to The Riverside Museum (Museum of Transport) and Tall Ship, where they were able to interact with a wide range of exhibits. We walked through old Glasgow streets and visited the shops and Subway. The children were able to climb aboard a train, tram or bus and get a real feel for old public transport. We enjoyed a workshop about how transport is powered.  

P1/2 were also lucky enough to have a visit from Kippen resident and Kippen Primary parent, Rev. Mark Davidson. Rev. Davidson is a Naval Chaplain and came to talk to Primary 1/2 about how submarines are powered and operated, and what life is like on board a submarine. The children thoroughly enjoyed his visit and learned a lot.

Fintry Amateur Dramatic Society (FADS) are putting on a production of the play “Journey’s End” by R.C. Sherriff, on September 26,27,28, and 29th, this year. The performance will take place in “The Playground”, a converted barn, a mile along the Fintry road heading from Killearn, giving the audience “an experience” of life in the trenches.
